00:11:20 night of the fire itself it was just he and his wife who were at home in their flat

00:11:24 flat mrs. Massett has given a detailed account of the events of that night which includes some important information and if I may I'd like to just read into the record an extract

00:11:37 just read into the record an extract from the statement as we have been making clear with all the statements that we're putting into the record as we go along this is a statement which is admitted in its entirety

00:11:48 admitted in its entirety and stands in its entirety as evidence before the inquiry but there is some important information that I'd like to read out if I could go therefore to page

00:11:59 read out if I could go therefore to page 7 of the statement in paragraph 43

00:12:06 if I begin there and this is the events of 13th of June and 14th of June 2017 I was in the living room as Senna from

00:12:17 was in the living room as Senna from around 2345 to around 1 o'clock I was sitting on the sofa wearing my pajamas I was on the phone to my sister aesol she told me that there were fire engines going towards Grenville Tower I still

00:12:29 going towards Grenville Tower I still told me that she thought there must be fire in our building I ended the call with I saw so I could have a look out of the window Senna was in the living room with me and he was watching television I told Senna what ISIL had just told me

00:12:42 I told Senna what ISIL had just told me I got up from the sofa and I walked over to the windows of the living room and opened the window so I could look down you have to open the window inwards as it does not open outwards I looked down

00:12:55 it does not open outwards I looked down to the ground and I could see fire engines at the bottom of the tower the fire brigade were taking out fire hoses there underneath the walkway of Grenville tower I couldn't see fire or smoke

00:13:06 smoke I couldn't hear any fire alarms Senna looked out of the window as well I was panicking already but my husband told me not to worry he told me that this had happened before and there was nothing to

00:13:17 happened before and there was nothing to worry about I spoke to ISIL again on the phone and I told her that I didn't know what was happening I carried on speaking to ISIL I can't remember exactly what we're

00:13:29 I can't remember exactly what we're talking about I can't remember what time I ended the call with ISIL I opened the front door to our flat and I could smell something burning it wasn't a strong smell I walked to the door of the

00:13:41 smell I walked to the door of the stairwell and when I opened the door I could smell the burning smell and it was stronger on the stairwell I looked down the stairwell and I saw a resident from the 14th floor she asked me if I could

00:13:52 the 14th floor she asked me if I could smell fire and I said yes she was saying that she had children and they were asleep and she needed to get them there was no smoke on the stairwell at this time that I could see I came back inside

00:14:04 time that I could see I came back inside the flat and walked into the living room where Senna was watching television and I opened the windows again he told me again that nothing was going to happen and if there was a fire fire if there

00:14:15 and if there was a fire fire if there was a fire the firefighters would put it I looked out the open window and I could see smoke and I could smell the smoke outside and to see people at the bottom of the tower they had their phones out

00:14:26 of the tower they had their phones out and it looked like they were filming the tower I couldn't see any flames I started panicking again Senna told me that he'd received a message from Abdullah who's my brother-in-law

00:14:37 Abdullah who's my brother-in-law Abdullah had sent Sena a photograph of the tower on fire you could see that there was a large fire I don't know which side of the tower this was on Abdullah called sin on his phone

00:14:49 Abdullah called sin on his phone Sena told me that Abdullah was telling us to get out my sister ISIL phoned me again and told me to get out the tower as it was on fire Sena and I opened the

00:15:00 as it was on fire Sena and I opened the front door of our flap to see what was happening and we stood outside of our flap with the door open some of our neighbors were running down the corridor towards the stairwell I don't know the names of these neighbors or the number

00:15:12 names of these neighbors or the number of the flat they lived in I believe they live next door to Sheela they didn't say anything to us they just ran towards the stairwell I could not hear a fire alarm in the corridor or on the stairwell I

00:15:25 in the corridor or on the stairwell I expected that if there was a fire the alarms would have gone off I could now see smoking on the corridor for the first time the smoke was quite thin it was coming from the doors to the

00:15:37 was coming from the doors to the stairwell so Noah and I went back into the flat and we closed the front door I saw smoke coming underneath the front door the flat this was at around 1:30 I

00:15:48 door the flat this was at around 1:30 I started to fill up cups of water I threw the water on the doors to make them wet I was thinking to myself who's going to clean all this up as I did this I closed the doors inside the flat to

00:16:00 I closed the doors inside the flat to try and stop the smoke from coming into the different rooms I put wet cloths underneath the front door to stop the smoke coming through it but this didn't stop the smoke coming in the fire alarm in our flat was now going

00:16:12 the fire alarm in our flat was now going off in our flat I could only hear our alarm

00:16:15 alarm I got changed out of my pajamas and into my clothes so I could leave the building Senna did the same I picked up my handbag and Senna took our passports and his phone I had my

00:16:26 our passports and his phone I had my phone in my bag we opened the front door of our flat the corridor was now full of thick black smoke it was difficult to see I believe that we had only been five

00:16:38 see I believe that we had only been five minutes or so from when we had last opened the front door the corridor had filled up with thick black smoke in this time it was difficult to breathe and it made my eyes sting I could not see the

00:16:50 made my eyes sting I could not see the doors that led to the stairwell because of the smoke I felt frightened and Senna shot shut the door we were both shocked and what panicking Senna took his phone

00:17:01 and what panicking Senna took his phone out and dialed 999 he spoke with an operator in English he said that the fire brigade were dealing with the fire that they were on their way to us smoke kept on coming into the flat and it was

00:17:12 kept on coming into the flat and it was making it difficult to breathe we went into the living room to get as far away as we could from the front door where the smoke was coming through I went to flannels in the bathroom using the tap

00:17:23 flannels in the bathroom using the tap water and I gave one to Senna we covered our mouths with the flannel to help us breathe my family were calling me on my phone I told them that the emergency

00:17:34 phone I told them that the emergency services told us to wait in the flat to be rescued I told them about the smoke in the corridor and the smoke coming into our flat my family was outside the watching the tower burn they were on the

00:17:45 watching the tower burn they were on the phone to me begging me to leave the tower but I said we couldn't get out I spoke with my sisters on the phone they told me that the fire was on the other side of the building to where our flat was and that it was spreading they were

00:17:58 was and that it was spreading they were begging me to leave the tower I told them that we were trapped inside the building I was scared I was going to die I kept looking out from the window to see if I could see any fire I could only

00:18:09 see if I could see any fire I could only see a lot of smoke at this time my daughter mauvais was standing outside and she was close to the tower she's speaking with police officers and the emergency services she told me that the police had said that the fire brigade

00:18:21 police had said that the fire brigade would get to us she was told that the fire fighters were on the 13th floor of the building and they were making their way up the tower I was telling mauvais to tell him to hurry up and that we needed oxygen masks

00:18:32 hurry up and that we needed oxygen masks the flat we couldn't breathe I was telling my bear about the smoke in the flat now they told me that the emergency services were telling us to stay put in the flat and wait for the firemen to get

00:18:43 the flat and wait for the firemen to get to us Sena put more wet towels underneath the door to try and stop smoke coming from underneath Sena and I tried to leave the flat for the second time we closed the flat door behind us

00:18:54 time we closed the flat door behind us which locked it Senna had the keys to the front door we both walked slowly towards where the stairwell was I couldn't see the stairwell because of the smoke which stung my eyes we reached

00:19:06 the smoke which stung my eyes we reached the stairwell and Senate pushed the door to the stairwell open stairwell was full of more hot thick black smoke I couldn't believe the smoke it was so hard to breathe we decided we couldn't go down

00:19:19 breathe we decided we couldn't go down the stairs because it was too dangerous I thought I would die if I tried to leave we slowly walked back to our flat door I couldn't see our door until we got close to it Senna had the keys to

00:19:30 got close to it Senna had the keys to the door and he was trying to open the door but he couldn't see the keyhole I was shouting at him to hurry up I was scared of being on the stairwell and I couldn't breathe he eventually managed

00:19:41 couldn't breathe he eventually managed to open the door and we quickly walked back into our flat the flat was full of smoke we walked back into the living room which was furthest away from the front door there was thick smoke in the flat we couldn't open the windows in the

00:19:54 flat we couldn't open the windows in the living room because of a smoke outside the windows Senna told me to lie on the floor the flat so we could breathe better

00:20:00 better we both laid down on the floor in the living room I was crying I spoke to family members on the phone again who were outside watching I looked outside the living room towards where the

00:20:12 the living room towards where the entrance to the tower was I could see flames on the outside of the building on the left of the window I started panicking

00:20:19 panicking I watched the flames gradually spreading towards the flat I could hear a helicopter in the sky hovering above the tower which I now know was taking photographs of the fire and was not there to save us I spoke to my sister

00:20:31 there to save us I spoke to my sister with my sister on the phone she said that she could see the flames by our flat she could see the flat burning she shouted at me to get out but we couldn't mervy at some point called me

00:20:43 couldn't mervy at some point called me and told me that the emergency services were saying that we needed to get out of the flat on our own she said they can't do anything and you're going to have to make a run for it

00:20:51 it I was asking her what she meant by no one was coming to get us I couldn't believe that no one was coming to get us I spoke with my son Emery he told me to

00:21:02 I spoke with my son Emery he told me to come to the window and open the window so he could see me one last time I told them I loved them and told him goodbye they were crying as well I began praying out loud I thought that this was the end I asked for my brothers my mother to

00:21:15 I asked for my brothers my mother to look after my children after I died senna was on the phone to 999 when he ended the call he told me that they said no one was coming to rescue us he said that we had to leave the flat

00:21:27 he said that we had to leave the flat for good and we would not be coming back I was in a state of shock I couldn't believe what he was saying I could hear explosion noises coming from other people's flats the windows of

00:21:39 from other people's flats the windows of the living room then shattered and the flames came through the window the flames set the windows and the walls and the curtains on fire there were flames all around I started screaming for help

00:21:50 all around I started screaming for help I could hear other people screaming and shouting for help too I don't know where these voices were coming from within the building the flames were a yellow and orange color and the smoke around it was thick and

00:22:01 and the smoke around it was thick and black we ran into the bathroom and sent her poetry buckets of water each filled up from the tap over my head and then he did the same to him I took my handbag and a wet flannel we left the flat

00:22:13 and a wet flannel we left the flat before we opened the front door I remember feeling the heat coming through the door the corridor was full of thick hot smoke and I couldn't see in front of me it was pitch black Senna led the way

00:22:26 me it was pitch black Senna led the way to the doors of the stairwell we walked slowly across to them holding out our hands we got to the doors and Senate pushed the door open smoke on the stairwell was hot and thick I felt I

00:22:38 stairwell was hot and thick I felt I couldn't breathe I was not able to describe how the smoke taste it but all I can say is that it was difficult to breathe

00:22:43 breathe is how thick the smoke was I held onto the railings of the stairwell Senna was walking in front of me I don't remember anyone else walking down the stairs well when we were but we you couldn't see

00:22:55 when we were but we you couldn't see anything so it's possible there were people also walking down it was difficult to walk down the stairs because you couldn't see the steps I was counting the number of sets so I knew when we got to each floor Senna kept

00:23:07 when we got to each floor Senna kept telling me to come on and told me to keep following him and if I just move on to paragraph 80 in the next page paragraph 80 reads as follows when we

00:23:18 paragraph 80 reads as follows when we got to the lower floors the smoke became less thick it was hot and I couldn't breathe and I was finding it hard to walk this is partly because of the smoke but also because I have a bad knee mr.

00:32:26 were open and whirling bringing air in on the landing you would like to correct this so that you say you could hear the air whirling in the vents but you do not recall air being brought into the landing itself yes that's correct

00:32:37 landing itself yes that's correct that's correct now the second matters at page 9 of your statements that's the next page a paragraph 55 and 56 known

00:32:49 next page a paragraph 55 and 56 known these two paragraphs you've set out what you did immediately after you first left the tower you said that you left your daughter with your neighbor Aziza and they went back to the tower where you met two ladies a mother and a

00:33:14 yes after watching the CCTV you would like to clarify the order of events as described in these two paragraphs you know shortly going to show you some CCTV Stills and we will clarify the order of those events in detail for now we can

00:33:27 those events in detail for now we can note for the record that there's a clarification to be made now subject to these two Corrections that we've gone through are the contents of your statement true yes I'd be grateful if

00:33:39 statement true yes I'd be grateful if that statements admitted into the record yes of course I would also put into the record the exhibits to understand now you'll find those at the back of tab one and the first one is our a1 which is I

00:34:49 yes now if those six exhibits could be admitted into the record at home yes of course

00:34:52 course no Missoni I'm just going to begin with some background about yourself and your time in the tower is that correct you lived in flat one two five which was on floor 15 of Graham full tower yes and

00:35:05 floor 15 of Graham full tower yes and you'd lived there since 2014 yes and who did you live with any of that the beginning he was me on my daughter and my husband not and by June

00:35:17 daughter and my husband not and by June 2017 who was living in the flat me my daughter and my husband a new husband a son yeah and did you rent the flat no he

00:35:29 son yeah and did you rent the flat no he was a council with the council and turning to your mobility in June 2017 how was your mobility at that time it

00:35:43 how was your mobility at that time it was bad it was bad yeah I had I had a few I had injury on a I just had my heart operation just a few

00:35:56 I just had my heart operation just a few months before the fire and four months before the fire we can see that today you're relying on a walking stick to assist you is that right in June 2017

00:36:08 assist you is that right in June 2017 did you also use any of no and did you have any aides to help you in working yeah what aids the jury isn't the same

00:36:19 yeah what aids the jury isn't the same the worker but I didn't use it that night yeah you managed to that yeah

00:36:29 if we can turn to your statement at page six

00:36:33 six beside obvious three page six paragraph 38 then you've told us that your mobility was bad in your statement you

00:36:44 mobility was bad in your statement you said that you always use the lifts were you able to use the stairs as well no this was the first time I used it was the first time I use the stairs when was

00:36:56 the first time I use the stairs when was the first time that you use last night

00:37:02 no

00:37:13 okay and when you went to when were the council aware that you had problems with your mobility yeah and you hadn't tried

00:37:24 your mobility yeah and you hadn't tried to use the stairs before that night it was emergency when I moved to the building and there was the lift was

00:37:35 building and there was the lift was blocked because they was fitting a new fixing the area and then a lot of a few people came from the TMO and the builders there was helping the neighbors

00:37:48 builders there was helping the neighbors to go up to the flat and that was one time

00:37:52 time I went with them and they helped me to go to my flat do you remember when this well that was like just a few weeks after I moved to gran from there it was

00:38:05 after I moved to gran from there it was when they was changing the building and I was building them so to cover is only I only use the stairs once a few weeks after you first

00:38:17 stairs once a few weeks after you first moved in yes and because the lift wasn't working for a few days and we had to I had to go up because I had an appointment that day and I went and I came back and I saw them I saw people

00:38:30 came back and I saw them I saw people unhappy everyone was waiting for get help to go up and there was a few disabled people to us like older people and people was coming to help us to go

00:38:42 and people was coming to help us to go upstairs hold our hands to go now you refer to people helping you up the stairs who were these people that help you people who was working in that in the area and that time who was like from

00:38:55 the area and that time who was like from the TM or

00:38:56 the TM or maybe the company was building there III don't know exactly who they are you know when you say working there at the

00:39:07 know when you say working there at the time what do you mean by working because the building was I was in a bad state there was like putting the frame and the ground the ground floor was wasn't

00:39:21 ground the ground floor was wasn't though it was locked we had to go through another another way coming through the station up to the building and that was the only area we

00:39:32 building and that was the only area we had the access to the building and the lift was blocked this was the only time I had to use the stairs okay and how did they help you up this area you hold my

00:39:44 they help you up this area you hold my hand and I walked with him slowly and all the way to the 50mm which we've been able to manage the stairs without any assistance it was not that time it was

00:39:56 assistance it was not that time it was very difficult it was before my heart operation and it was very difficult to take steps on breathing at the same time yeah right now I'm sorry you mentioned

00:40:08 yeah right now I'm sorry you mentioned at the time that there was referred there was work being done to Rempel tower and it's known that there was a process of refurbishment going on during that refurbishment the windows and your flat were replaced is that right yes now

00:40:21 flat were replaced is that right yes now turning to page four of your statement this is paragraph 27

00:40:30 you've said that the windows looked clean and nice but there were always drafts coming through the new windows it was a constant problem I did complain

00:40:41 was a constant problem I did complain and someone who's working with the TMO came round but nothing was done when did you notice the drafts around the windows soon as soon I moved to the building to

00:40:55 soon as soon I moved to the building to the flat I noticed there's a draft as some airs coming through but he was getting worse because the winter was coming and then he was like getting

00:41:06 coming and then he was like getting colder and you feel the breeze sometime in some places and some if it's there's a wind you can hear the wind coming through okay just to break that down you said as soon as you moved into grandpa's

00:41:19 said as soon as you moved into grandpa's how you notice that you had the windows been replaced at that point from inside it was fully replaced the windows here okay and when you felt the draft you said you could notice it in a particular place now before going to where you

00:41:32 place now before going to where you noticed them if we could have exhibit ra4 which is iws 316 now this is a floor

00:41:43 ra4 which is iws 316 now this is a floor plan of your flat flat one to five is that correct yes it's an accurate representation of your flat as in June 2017 yeah is that right yeah no before

00:41:55 2017 yeah is that right yeah no before turning to wear around the windows you mentioned those drafts could you feel a draft around all the windows or some of them all doing those all the windows and where there's some windows which she felt the draft more than others and the

00:42:09 felt the draft more than others and the living room because it was bigger and it was for window in the living room and imagine all of them was bringing the draft in and in my bedroom who used to

00:42:22 draft in and in my bedroom who used to know do you want to just I've seen that you're pointing at the screen if you want to point at the large screen up there the one that we had it's just so the room can see as well that's turned

00:42:35 the room can see as well that's turned off you pointed out to us

00:42:43 yeah

00:42:48 this is was my bedroom this is my daughter and that's the kitchen windows here in this living room because we were staying most of the time

00:42:59 because we were staying most of the time and because the windows was coming from two sides we I used to feel the draft more on the living room and the nighttime in my bedroom the same thing

00:43:10 nighttime in my bedroom the same thing it was okay if we can confirm for the record you're pointing to your bedroom as the bedroom on the far end of the flat the middle room you said as your

00:43:22 flat the middle room you said as your daughter's room is that correct and then the lounge is the room next to that and did you feel the draft from all four windows yes and looking at that

00:43:33 four windows yes and looking at that plan did you notice the draft coming from any particular side around the window yes I felt like they used to come from the side you know the side of the

00:43:45 from the side you know the side of the windows and under you know there was a plastic board there was a plastic they sticked to decorate all the area where's the window the air was coming through there you can feel it you can feel them

00:43:57 there you can feel it you can feel them from the side of the windows so to confirm for the record the witness is referring to the sides of the window in the windows the bottom window so thank

00:44:10 the windows the bottom window so thank you very much

00:44:16 macelli he said that you complain to somebody from the TM oh is that right yes

00:44:22 yes do you remember who you complain to no I when I have any complain is to go to the office under the building where's the TM all was based under the building you and

00:44:35 all was based under the building you and do my complain and then take it and then they send someone and I showed them someone came and I showed them where I was I what I was talking about and then

00:44:49 was I what I was talking about and then do you remember if the person who came was a man or a woman and it was a man and when they when you showed them the drafts did they do anything about it um no not really

00:45:02 um no not really no no one came to do anything and as of June 2017 could you still could you still feel the drafts at the windows yes

00:45:16 now on the next page at page five of your statement paragraph 31 you've also

00:45:27 your statement paragraph 31 you've also referred to your front door in your statement now you said that your front door has never changed at any point after I moved in the door was very light and not very solid it would have been easy to break in as far as I'm aware my

00:45:40 easy to break in as far as I'm aware my neighbours has the same type of door my front door had three hinges the door didn't close properly and the lock was difficult yet to jiggle the door around a bit there were gaps between the door

00:45:52 a bit there were gaps between the door and the frame and when there was wind there was a draught and it made a rattling noise the door had a letterbox which was shut after was used now you've

00:46:04 which was shut after was used now you've referred to gaps around the door where exactly did you notice those gaps

00:46:12 on the frame around the frame of the door the the back side and the front like when you shut the door you can see the corridor light coming through and it

00:46:26 the corridor light coming through and it was a gap there okay can I confirm for the record your phone to the sides the left and right side of the door and within the frame left on the left side only yeah and was

00:46:38 left on the left side only yeah and was that where the door opened out or the side of the hinges where's the door where the door opens okay so there's a noticeable gap on the side of the door that I really fun yeah all the way you

00:46:49 that I really fun yeah all the way you know like to do all the left side from the top to the bottom of it all yeah and could you notice any gaps at the top edge and or bottom of the door I

00:47:01 the top edge and or bottom of the door I know really remember right you've also described in this paragraph that you had problems closing the door and the lock was difficult yeah can you explain

00:47:12 was difficult yeah can you explain further what you mean by having those problems closing the door like we need close the door it wasn't easily you know locked I had to keep you know push it up or down until it got to the lock

00:47:25 or down until it got to the lock position and when you're painting the same you had to struggle to open it right and if you open the door after having open dense wood you have to close

00:47:37 having open dense wood you have to close the door yourself or would it automatically no I had to call it close it by myself okay so yet to physically pull it closed yeah right now I just want to ask you some further questions about your

00:47:48 some further questions about your awareness of fire safety measures in Greenville town turning to page 6 of your statement and this is paragraph

00:48:01 29 so we page 5 of your statement paragraph 29 you've referred here in my

00:48:15 paragraph 29 you've referred here in my police statement I referred to fire alarms in the flat by this I mean smoke alarms you say there were two alarms in my flat one in the corridor by the entrance and one in the kitchen as far

00:48:27 entrance and one in the kitchen as far as I know they worked on the Saturday before the fire someone came and checked their lamb necks the door but not the one in the kitchen the man who came said they were working but no alarms went off

00:48:39 they were working but no alarms went off on the day of the fire there were no heat alarms in the kitchen of the flat there was the carbon monoxide alarm in the kitchen I think that the TMO fitted this it was there when I moved in right

00:48:51 this it was there when I moved in right so you describe having two smoke alarms within the flat the two alarms were they smoke alarms yes and this is the one in the corridor and the entrance and one in the kitchen yeah when you say that they

00:49:04 the kitchen yeah when you say that they were working in June 2017 how do you know that they were working because when like in the kitchen every dude toast we burnt the toast or we used the oven and

00:49:16 burnt the toast or we used the oven and start to smoke then there are used to go on that's why I know would that be the alarm in the kitchen only or the one in the hallway as well and I think both yeah both of us yeah

00:49:32 and I think both yeah both of us yeah you've also described here a visit from a man who came and said they were working here was the Saturday before the fire night someone came was around

00:49:46 fire night someone came was around afternoon and then it says they check in all the alarms it was they are working or not and he checked the one in the corridor he didn't check the kitchen one

00:49:57 corridor he didn't check the kitchen one and I asked him why and he says because I knew a few months before maybe they had I wasn't sure when but they had to check them and you say no we chicken because just

00:50:09 and you say no we chicken because just to make sure everything all day long they're working okay I want to just take that back in stages firstly telling to the man himself do you know who he worked for no he was wearing a black uniform a

00:50:20 no he was wearing a black uniform a black uniform yeah could you see if there was any marks on sickness on that you know I don't remember and he didn't tell you who he worked for no did he say why he was checking my

00:50:34 no did he say why he was checking my lungs you say they're checking all the building or the balcony yeah no you said he checked the alarms in the hallway yeah did you tell him there was an alarm

00:50:47 yeah did you tell him there was an alarm in the kitchen as well no I didn't but usually they should know because there's our lung in the kitchen and in the corridor on it and this is

00:50:58 and in the corridor on it and this is something is always there you have to check how many alarms in the house yeah did you see how he checked the alarm in the hallway I think he he I don't know

00:51:15 the hallway I think he he I don't know he does something he moved it done I wasn't concentrating with him I didn't you know I stand in the front of it and see what it was but I saw he was you know doing something on the final room

00:51:26 know doing something on the final room right after he checked the alarms did he give you anything to sign or ask you to confirm that he'd been to visit no yeah did he give you any other advice and

00:51:38 did he give you any other advice and what to do if there was a fire no and did you have any discussion about what to do if there was a fire - no never right

00:51:48 right how long did that visit last the one that he came to see was a few minutes I was like

00:51:54 was like was very fast turning to paragraph 28 and just taking us back a paragraph before this on page four

00:52:05 before this on page four you've also you said at no point before or after I moved in was there given any information about fire safety I was not

00:52:16 information about fire safety I was not given any information out how to get out of the building in the event of a fire or any other emergency although I assumed I should use the left stairs and not the left I had previously done a number of courses at Olympia including

00:52:29 number of courses at Olympia including health and safety and food safety as well as fire safety course now within that pair of you say that nobody gave you any information then you and why did

00:52:42 you any information then you and why did you assume that you should use the stairs or not the left I think it's common sense when there's a fire at taking us next to paragraph 30 this is

00:52:54 taking us next to paragraph 30 this is on page five of the statement

00:53:03 you refer within that paragraph to saying in terms of take us to the middle of the paragraph in terms of instructions there was never any fired role I think that there was one sign by

00:53:15 role I think that there was one sign by the lift saying stay inside the flat and don't use the lift and the vent of the fire I remember thinking that was a bit weird to be advised to stay in the flat in the event of a fire it was something

00:53:26 in the event of a fire it was something that I mentioned - hi I'm and sit the thought of a fire was something I was worried about it was a nightmare scenario for me there was as far as I am aware no science by the fire exit and stairwell and nothing on the stairs I

00:53:38 stairwell and nothing on the stairs I want to first ask you about the sign that you've referred to by the lift if the witness could be shown iron q93

00:53:48 is this the sign that you are referring to in your statement yeah he looked like so you recognize the sign that you seen

00:54:06 yeah I think so now you say you saw the sign by the lift do you remember which floor you saw that sign he was next to the lift was this on

00:54:19 sign he was next to the lift was this on your floor on the ground floor and Annie I mean in my your floor yeah did you see it on any other floors I don't think so yeah I think so

00:54:30 I don't think so yeah I think so yeah do you remember seeing it on the ground floor at all yes I think you and what advice did you understand the sign to be giving you when I read the sign

00:54:43 to be giving you when I read the sign there says if there's any fire having stay in you use the left no you said in

00:54:55 stay in you use the left no you said in your statement that you thought this was a bit weird you know why did you think this was a bit weird because if there's a fire I think people should leave the building as soon as possible now aside

00:55:11 building as soon as possible now aside from this notice were you aware of any other information from any other organization or individual about what you should do in the case of a fire no it's just to do the courses I don't and

00:55:23 it's just to do the courses I don't and that's for the safety I understand what to do and in where it's a fire or any emergency what to do but nothing from

00:55:34 emergency what to do but nothing from nowhere else I found any information and when you refer to the courses are you referring to the courses that you took at Olympia yes yeah what were you advised to do in those courses I'm I was

00:55:46 advised to do in those courses I'm I was preparing for work and then there was a few courses was going for health and safety 4,000 safety and it was the occasion if there's a fire on

00:55:59 it was the occasion if there's a fire on the buildings and all that and then I done a whole course with all this so what and during that course what advice do they give you about what to do

00:56:10 advice do they give you about what to do in the event of a fire - not to use left yeah core emergency and use the stairs to leave the building and any building

00:56:21 to leave the building and any building you should know which point you should go to if it is a fire so as of June 2017

00:56:32 go to if it is a fire so as of June 2017 what was your understanding as a resident of what you should do in Granville towers if there was a fire if there's a fire yes leave immediately

00:56:43 finally you said within your statement and this is taking you back to paragraph 30 on page 5 of the statement at the end

00:56:55 30 on page 5 of the statement at the end of this paragraph you said the thoughts of a fire was something that's specifically worried you in as a nightmare scenario for you was there any particular reason why you were concerned about being caught in a fire in June

00:57:06 about being caught in a fire in June 2017 was there any reason why before the fire that took place in Grand Vitara you were particularly worried about there being a fire when I moved to the

00:57:20 being a fire when I moved to the building I move I attend soon a move I attend the meetings and I saw how all the resident was worried about many issues happening in the building and

00:57:32 issues happening in the building and they didn't feel safe and that feeling just start from the beginning and I start to feel it and secondly when they

00:57:43 start to feel it and secondly when they put the builded boiler next to the front door that's what the other things was really worrying me because it was something coming to this boiler it was

00:57:54 something coming to this boiler it was blow up that's the only one interest how I'm gonna leave this flat and then I start to worried a lot about it and think about what I

00:58:05 lot about it and think about what I should do right thank you mister now I'm going to turn now to the events of the foot 13th and 14th June 2017 can

00:58:17 of the foot 13th and 14th June 2017 can you confirm on that particular night who was in your flat yes you're in the flat yes and was anybody else also in the flat yeah my daughter and my husband and

00:58:29 flat yeah my daughter and my husband and can you confirm what the name of your husband and see the alley out of money now I'm going to pick up your statement at page 7 and this is paragraph 45 of

00:58:41 at page 7 and this is paragraph 45 of your statements now you've said in your statement here mr. Lee if I may just ask

00:58:54 statement here mr. Lee if I may just ask mr. point do you feel ready to continue would you like a break at this moment yeah we can't quit you can continue if at any time you do feel that you need a pause please do say so I would thank you know within your

00:59:07 so I would thank you know within your statement here you've said that you didn't go to bed that night and for some reason you had energy and he said you were you're awake then you've also described how you opened all the windows

00:59:18 described how you opened all the windows both in the sitting room and both bedrooms as I felt suffocated No

00:59:27 a paragraph

00:59:36 so is it paragraph 47 you then says that you've seen a copy of the CCTV image xo9 one of when I was leaving the tower and

00:59:47 one of when I was leaving the tower and it's timed at 1:20 17 about 20 to 30 minutes before I left the tower when I was in my room with the laptop I smelt something small it's not like plastic burning it was not a strong smell when

01:00:02 burning it was not a strong smell when you say it wasn't a strong smell how strong was that smart at that time it was lightly like when you smell like a plastic burning it was very light smells

01:00:14 plastic burning it was very light smells burning it wasn't drunk and at that stage could you tell if the smell was coming from inside of that or outside I noticed it's coming from outside but because I couldn't see anything I start

01:00:27 because I couldn't see anything I start to search the flat and make sure it's not coming from the electrics I mean don't search everything here inside that outside and did you see if it was coming

01:00:38 outside and did you see if it was coming from inside the flats no it wasn't coming from inside and you said then you went to the living room kit and kitchen and looked round the flat looks right out of the windows but you couldn't see

01:00:49 out of the windows but you couldn't see anything

01:00:50 anything the says you've described he searched the flats and you went back to the bedroom and sat on the bed of the laptop after a few minutes I smelt the burning smell again this time a little bit stronger and I looked out of the window

01:01:02 stronger and I looked out of the window to see if I could see smoke and you didn't see anything did you see any emergency personnel or people outside the tower when you looked out the window no and when did you first see smoke then

01:01:19 no and when did you first see smoke then we know went back and I looked down I I bought myself down to see under the building because when you up in the window you can directly see what's under

01:01:32 window you can directly see what's under then I had to you know go out of the window to see and then I started to see the light smoking coming from the right side going to the left

01:01:44 from the right side going to the left side under the building no you gestured that you had to lean over through the window is there anything obstructing your view when you looked at the way yeah it's the structure of the building they're

01:01:55 structure of the building they're covering they done outside the building and the plastic between the window and inside it was a bit taking space and you have to pull yourself up to reach to see

01:02:08 have to pull yourself up to reach to see something so you've said at this time you then saw the smoke and this was on your right-hand side from the building you know at this stage you've then

01:02:23 you know at this stage you've then referred to at paragraph 48 this is the following on paragraph within the statement you said you woke up said earlier at money this is your husband yes and what was his reaction when he

01:02:35 yes and what was his reaction when he was working up about it that night he was very ill he had a very high temperature and I was nursing him all night and the night before and I was worried and I I whacked him and he he

01:02:48 worried and I I whacked him and he he wasn't concentrating because he was shivering and he was telling me he told me to not worry and because usually kids depend pain outside the building and I think he happened before say don't worry

01:03:00 think he happened before say don't worry it is the same thing you don't need to just you know come down and go back did you stop worrying no why didn't she stop worrying then firstly I don't I worry a

01:03:13 worrying then firstly I don't I worry a lot and I like to make sure I know what's going on to feel for me to feel safe yeah because I get panic attacks and I'm always an anxious and so did you

01:03:25 and I'm always an anxious and so did you make sure that everything was all right yeah I went back I looked around the windows again until idling and I saw the smoke when I saw the smoke and that's

01:03:38 smoke when I saw the smoke and that's when I decided to go out the flat and check around you know outside my flat and I came out I saw the corridor empty I couldn't hear anything no alarm I

01:03:51 I couldn't hear anything no alarm I don't see anyone moving then I took my jacket and I walked to the stairs door and I opened the stairs and I went there to see it was anything anyone panicking

01:04:03 to see it was anything anyone panicking then I I looked down I saw just maybe two people you know two hands going down there's the stairs and I looked up and I saw old lady who was talking in the

01:04:16 saw old lady who was talking in the phone and then she asked me do you think there's a fire and I say I don't know do you do you know anything and then she say someone's telling me there's a fire

01:04:28 say someone's telling me there's a fire and then she wasn't sure and I had to go back I run back to my flat and then I went to my husband I say listen there's something serious now we have to leave and he wasn't replying you know I can't

01:04:42 and he wasn't replying you know I can't I can't go down and then come back for nothing are you okay no mr. Lee I just want to take you back because you've described quite a lot and one go there

01:04:53 described quite a lot and one go there yeah now if I can take you back in stages about exactly what you saw you've said that you went out into the communal lobby and you didn't hear anything at that time

01:05:02 that time yeah you didn't hear any fire alarms now if I can take you to your statement and this is paragraph 49 on page 8 of the

01:05:14 this is paragraph 49 on page 8 of the statements I WS 3 page 8

01:05:20 now as we've just told us you didn't feel reassured after speaking to your husband said Eliot Manny so you said you went back to your room saw the smoke again and then you went to

01:05:31 saw the smoke again and then you went to the flat door and went outside and went out looked around outside and but I saw nothing and nobody everything was quiet but I noticed the air fan vents in the lift lobby area by my flat were open and

01:05:44 lift lobby area by my flat were open and whirling bringing Aaron on the landing now you've already corrected that it wasn't actually bringing Aaron on the landing yeah he was just loud it was loud no yeah that's what I wanted to ask

01:05:57 loud no yeah that's what I wanted to ask you about you've just told her that when you first looked into the lobby you didn't hear anything at all yeah and you're saying when you said that you heard Aaron Aaron when I say I didn't hear anything I mean people okay thank

01:06:12 hear anything I mean people okay thank you miss sunny that is clear no these air fan vents that you heard what could you hear exactly at that time he was like willing like I was like I love you

01:06:24 like willing like I was like I love you know like when you hear loud fun fun taking or bringing in air but they made this loud noise but I there's you don't

01:06:36 this loud noise but I there's you don't feel the air coming you don't feel cold or the filters air all right that's why I didn't know if he's bringing or taking but all what I heard is the loved was the noise consistent yes continue and

01:06:49 the noise consistent yes continue and stuff is like loud noise yeah and was that noise louder for example than a vacuum cleaner louder a bit louder than

01:07:00 vacuum cleaner louder a bit louder than a vacuum

01:07:01 a vacuum that's right now if I could show you two images mr. chairman if I can give firstly on normal warning these are images from inside a small six again there is floor six and it is the lobby

01:07:13 there is floor six and it is the lobby so they've been taken after the fire but do not show anything particularly distressing quite well people know where they have not taken after the fire but I think particularly distressing no traffic no they're not thank you

01:07:25 traffic no they're not thank you now if we can have beyond a four zeros to five one three and BL a four zeroes to five one four they can be placed side by side now these are photographs as

01:07:36 by side now these are photographs as you've noted mr. chairman of floor six of the communal Lobby taken by the inquiries experts and you can see that's a normal picture of a lobby that would be similar to what you would have seen on floor 15 is that right in sanik yes

01:07:48 on floor 15 is that right in sanik yes no B alley two five one three shows vents high up on the north side of the building so that's the picture on the

01:07:59 building so that's the picture on the left that would show the north side and B on a two five one four that's picture on the right hand side shows vents closer to the ground on the south side of the building now your flat was on the

01:08:11 of the building now your flat was on the north side of the tower would you recognize the vents on the left and personally the vents that you are referring to just now do you recognize them within this picture yeah it's the

01:08:22 them within this picture yeah it's the left one the higher its that if you could maybe if I can write you to show us on the left picture yes the one that's higher up yes and is that where you heard this heard the sound coming for yes No

01:08:42 will this sound that you heard firstly when you heard on the landing he said it was quite a loud sound before you open the front door did you hear that noise yeah before I opened the door

01:08:54 yeah before I opened the door it's it was less it's like you can hear it but it's not strong like when you are inside the flat soon you up in the door you hear it and you said that you didn't

01:09:08 you hear it and you said that you didn't feel any movement of air in the lobby at the time yeah what was the temperature of the lobby like at this time it wasn't

01:09:20 of the lobby like at this time it wasn't quality was a bit it was normal temperature I don't exactly remember if it was okay it was normal right now this

01:09:32 it was okay it was normal right now this noise that you've heard have you ever heard that noise before yeah one time one time yeah do you remember when that time was he was I think I just a few

01:09:43 time was he was I think I just a few months before the fire I think I was I came to the flat and then I heard it I know I was I don't know if I came or I

01:09:55 know I was I don't know if I came or I left but what happened I heard it then we went down then I I saw the fire brigade and on the building and then I spoke to one of them and I say is what's

01:10:08 spoke to one of them and I say is what's happening and they told me I we think maybe is a fire or something but we couldn't find anything but you don't need to worry but then I asked him I

01:10:19 need to worry but then I asked him I said why there's a loud then he told me this is for emergency when is there a fire

01:10:28 fire they have to bring or take in air he tried to explain it to me like that all right I just want to take that in parts you said you heard the noise and then

01:10:41 you said you heard the noise and then you went downstairs yeah and this is a few months before the fire yeah do you remember exactly which months or you know if it was a month or two months before the fire what prompted you to go

01:10:54 before the fire what prompted you to go down on that occasion I think we was leaving the building and then when I opened the door and I and I had it then I went down and I saw the fire brigade

01:11:06 I went down and I saw the fire brigade man there and I asked them ok see so the fact where exactly did you speak to this fire on the ground on the ground floor was that within the tower within the

01:11:17 was that within the tower within the tower inside the park and he told you you've told the client told you that there was a lady should be open and work when there's an emergency this being the heavens yeah now this noise the noise

01:11:37 heavens yeah now this noise the noise you heard at that time that it sounds the same or was it different in any way he was the same is the same sound and

01:11:48 he was the same is the same sound and finally are you sure it was in 2017 that this happened or before 2017 no he was definitely 2017 you right now I'm

01:11:59 definitely 2017 you right now I'm certainly take us back to the night of the fire itself you said that you heard the sound of the air vents on this first time that you went into the communal lobby did you notice any signs of smoke

01:12:11 lobby did you notice any signs of smoke inside the communal lobby no and when you went to the staircase you said you opened the door to the second is that right yes was the daughter staircase difficult to open or

01:12:22 daughter staircase difficult to open or did you notice any resistance in the open at all it was just a heavy heavy door and you know like you have to you know I was a bit heavy door yeah but it

01:12:35 know I was a bit heavy door yeah but it was easy to open you know it wasn't hard to open you all right and when you went into the staircase did you go actually inside the staircase or did you say that inside this did you notice any movement of air

01:12:48 this did you notice any movement of air in the staircase when you enter no when I didn't notice until I looked down and I

01:12:53 I so two people moving down like my concealer like two three months holding them and going down and there was a bit far and then when I looked up I saw the lady who was standing in a top

01:13:05 I saw the lady who was standing in a top of me and that uh floor just one floor above me yeah but in terms of the feeling of the air in the staircase could you feel anything different no everything would look to normal in

01:13:18 no everything would look to normal in that time and did you notice any signs of smoke in the staircase no no right sees then return you've described already the conversation that you had with the lady and she told you someone had told her there was a fire

01:13:30 had told her there was a fire yes all right yeah can you remember what she was wearing thinks she was wearing a long dress and she had small scarf you know in her

01:13:43 and she had small scarf you know in her head do you remember what color the dress was your scarf no no was dark so maybe brown black something like that

01:13:55 and was the scarf covering her hair just like horrible like it's happened yeah okay

01:14:08 now when you went back from there you went back to your flatters that right yeah

01:14:12 yeah and when you went back to the stairwell door closed by itself what did you pull it shut behind it closed by myself now if we can turn back to your statement

01:14:23 if we can turn back to your statement page 8 paragraph 50 this point you said you've gone back you've told said that there was a fire and you've described in

01:14:37 there was a fire and you've described in that you tried to persuade him to leave with you yeah at this point you've described that you've tried you're trying to tell said that you want to leave and you've also gone to get your

01:14:49 leave and you've also gone to get your daughter

01:14:49 daughter what does made you decide to leave the flat at that time sewing person who worried if there's a fire on talking in the phone

01:14:59 the phone maybe she that moment I felt okay if she's talking about the fire and I saw all this signed and I saw the smoke outside then that's mean there's

01:15:11 outside then that's mean there's something going on and I need immediately to live

01:15:24 and when you left who did you leave the flatware if anyone my daughter your daughter yeah okay now mr. chairman I noticed that we've been going for 50

01:15:36 noticed that we've been going for 50 minutes I wonder whether this might be an appropriate point to take well I did have my eye on the clock how long do you think you may want to keep us witness I believe it may be

01:15:48 keep us witness I believe it may be another 15 to 20 minutes Oh in that case I think we give her a break now yes this is only I think it would be a good idea to have a short break at this point so we're gonna stop

01:16:00 break at this point so we're gonna stop for 10 minutes I've asked you please not to speak to anyone about your evidence while you're out of the room all right we'll resume at 20 past 11:00 and you'd like to give her the a sure

01:16:11 and you'd like to give her the a sure now she'll look after you all right thank you very much

01:16:34 right 25c elevenses thank you

01:18:36 you

01:20:58 you

01:29:02 like you like to ask was on you to come back please okay

01:29:33 all right happy to carry on thank you yes

01:29:45 before the break you decided to evacuate the flat and you left with your daughter on the second time that you returned to the communal Lobby did you notice any

01:29:56 the communal Lobby did you notice any change in the conditions in the lobby compared to the first time that you looked in no could you still hear the air van events making the sound that you described you mean when when I left my

01:30:15 described you mean when when I left my flat and it went down yes so you've described that you went once into the communal Lobby you looked in the stairs went back to your flat and then the second time you left on the final occasion with your daughter on the

01:30:28 final occasion with your daughter on the second time did you still hear the air vent yes and were they making the same sound as you heard the first times yeah and did you notice any signs of smoke on the second occasion that you're in the

01:30:40 the second occasion that you're in the communal of you know now when you went into the stairs on the second occasion when you're finally leaving the tower did you notice any signs of smoke in the

01:30:51 did you notice any signs of smoke in the stairs on that occasion no now if we can turn to page 8 of your statement paragraph 51

01:31:02 you described here that you went out of the flat with your daughter's name's been redacted and ran to the stairs and you opened the door and ran down you say that when I reached I think the fifth or

01:31:14 that when I reached I think the fifth or sixth floor I saw a fire brigade man looking for water trying to fit his hose to something on the wall see my exhibit ra.5 depicting the hose on the floor now

01:31:26 ra.5 depicting the hose on the floor now if we can have our a six that's I WS three page 17 I think if that can be rotated around right now that shows the

01:31:40 rotated around right now that shows the staircase

01:31:41 staircase can you describe exactly what you can see in that exhibit I saw the hose on the floor and one of the fire brigade

01:31:55 the floor and one of the fire brigade mind was on the area yeah under stairs now for the record you're pointing at the screen Renier referring to the hose are you talking about the red line that

01:32:06 are you talking about the red line that we can see in the middle yeah perception and that depicts the hose yeah and as the Box on the wall of the box that you're saying you're referring to in your statement yeah it wasn't a box it

01:32:18 your statement yeah it wasn't a box it was think something on the wall but I don't know if it was for the water or I didn't know exactly right and can I

01:32:29 didn't know exactly right and can I check with you miss Allie when you say on the landing do you are you referring to the landing that leads into one of the lobbies or was it a landing a half landing in between two floors between

01:32:42 landing in between two floors between two floors between the two floors

01:32:47 and was this box attached to the wall or next the wall I don't remember and are you sure

01:33:04 and are you sure that this object was in the stairwell no yes did you see what the firefighter was doing with that I think he was bullying the hose and

01:33:16 think he was bullying the hose and looking for something but I didn't know exactly what he was doing or he was looking for then I thought maybe he's looking for a water or two or somewhere

01:33:27 looking for a water or two or somewhere he can't attach to the hose he was holding - how long did you observe him doing this it was just a second because I bust him and I saw what he was doing honey when I saw him I just walked down

01:33:41 honey when I saw him I just walked down right as you kept going off Yeah right

01:33:47 no in your statements as well you've said at paragraph 52 if we can go back to statement page 8 you said that you I

01:33:59 to statement page 8 you said that you I ran so fast with name redacted a guy with the little baby came running past me not looking just going fast there was no smoke on the stairs all the way down

01:34:10 no smoke on the stairs all the way down and the lights were on I didn't see any fire when I was inside the tower was there any difficulty in this man passing you on the stairs because he was just so fast bastard my broom than me he runs so

01:34:25 fast bastard my broom than me he runs so fast you know he wasn't looking around it's like maybe he knew what's going was going on because he was so determined to leave quickly and then he just passed me first and he keep going down I was they

01:34:38 first and he keep going down I was they enough space them to pass you quickly yes right you've also told the inquiry today and in your statement you've had difficulty with your mobility the

01:34:49 difficulty with your mobility the movement on that night did you have any difficulty coming down the stairs because of your mobility yes yeah I had this diff you know my

01:35:00 yes yeah I had this diff you know my buddy was so because I feel so tense and hard of course to walk I say he running but it's not running is maybe fast working

01:35:10 working to leave quickly okay so how long do you estimate that it took you to come down the stairs then think a few minutes now

01:35:25 the stairs then think a few minutes now you on the way down says did you notice of any stairwell doors were open to the lobby's only when I reached the six or the fifth when I saw the family standing there was the door was opening and they

01:35:37 there was the door was opening and they were standing next to the door speaking with one of the firemen and the lady was crying and saying the fire reached my kitchen if I reach my kitchen and then

01:35:48 kitchen if I reach my kitchen and then there was panicking and she had two kids with her and her husband and there was all pajamas then that's that's the only time I saw a door open yeah and did you

01:36:01 time I saw a door open yeah and did you see what was holding that door open on that floor the family the father lady with her husband on the kitchen right no you went down the stairs with your daughter on that and you said you've

01:36:13 daughter on that and you said you've exited Grenville towers then no if I can take you to page nine of your statement

01:36:27 this is where you've said that you've left Granville towers and then a tower and then you returned again why did you go back to Grand Vitara cuz I left my

01:36:38 go back to Grand Vitara cuz I left my husband now I'm going to take you through your exit and the return of the tower stages but first what I'm going to do is I'm going to show you a number of

01:36:49 do is I'm going to show you a number of CCTV stills which show your exit and the return and then I will go through each of those images I'll break them down in turn okay so if we can go through all of

01:37:00 turn okay so if we can go through all of them as I go through these images I will also give you what we call they're just a time so that's the real time of the cameras that we've had and that feature of the cameras if we can turn the

01:37:14 of the cameras if we can turn the versity to iearn q 490 I do have one first question when we first when we show that image let's enqueue 490 that's five zeros for nine zero this was taken

01:37:25 five zeros for nine zero this was taken at one 1943 now Miss Annie can you confirm for the record who the people in that image oh who the people in that

01:37:36 that image oh who the people in that image are myself and my daughter right now if you can go through the next images as iron cube for 9 1 this was taken at one 1952 inq for 92 and this is

01:37:50 taken at one 1952 inq for 92 and this is taken at 120 126 inq 493 taken at 121 32

01:38:03 inq four nine four taking up one 21:42

01:38:11 inq four nine five taken at 1:21 49 inq 4 9 6 taken at 1:21 58 i NQ 497 at 122 i

01:38:36 NQ 4 9 8 at 122 18 i NQ 4 9 9 at one

01:38:49 NQ 4 9 8 at 122 18 i NQ 4 9 9 at one twenty two twenty one the boxing club CCTV stole that was taken at 122 36

01:39:10 inq 500 taken at 123 12 and finally inq

01:39:21 inq 500 taken at 123 12 and finally inq 501 taken at 12320 now there's a large number of stalls and it shows your movement within the lower floors of

01:39:33 movement within the lower floors of Granville tower in detail so I'm going to ask you now a few questions that come from those stalls and your movements if we can I'll show your statement at page 9 paragraph 55 and 56

01:39:56 in this these paragraphs you've already told inquiry that you'd like to correct the order of the events but they generally are correct the events themselves you said I was disoriented you saw people and there was one of my

01:40:08 you saw people and there was one of my neighbors Aziza a lady and I asked her to look after redacted then but she didn't register what I was saying I recognized another lady from the tower I didn't know at the time but I could see

01:40:20 didn't know at the time but I could see that she looked and dressed like she was from like I was and I said to Anne our language auntie can you look after my child I need to look after my husband look for my husband I used them and then and then turned to paragraph 56 where

01:40:33 and then turned to paragraph 56 where you described I went to the tower entrance not the second floor and I saw people coming out on the second floor of firemen how the don't stop me wouldn't let me pass I said that my husband is left in the tower he is sick you know he

01:40:44 left in the tower he is sick you know he can't walk they asked me for my flat number and floor and said they would go and get him I have the key to the flat and my hand I gave this to them and they promised me they will get him out when the ground

01:40:56 they will get him out when the ground floor by the lift there were two ladies maybe Afghan uns an old lady and her daughter outside the door the mother didn't really speak English the daughter had broken English and they were trying to go up in the lift I stopped them push them out I said you will die the lady

01:41:08 them out I said you will die the lady threw herself on the floor crying just saying husband husband the daughter saying son was of the dad who is very old you've described a number of different interactions with people at

01:41:19 different interactions with people at this stage now if you can go through the CCTV again you've seen that in the chronological order and I would ask firstly 4-iron q49 - first again

01:41:35 can you describe who the people you can see in this image are I think they know that

01:41:41 that Jaafar family and I find that they are after I didn't know in that time mm-hmm what yeah and just for the record

01:41:53 what yeah and just for the record there's three people in the pictures yeah can you confirm who you say are the two that it - lady in the front in the front I know I'm in the back you're the lady at the back yeah in the

01:42:04 you're the lady at the back yeah in the orange pink scarf Yeah right and then if we can have inq 493 followed by 494 know

01:42:18 we can have inq 493 followed by 494 know you've described this this is inq 493 again these are the two ladies that you said before in your statement you

01:42:30 said before in your statement you described having conversation with two ladies that were maybe Afghani are these the two ladies that you're referring to yes and they're you seem to be saying something - the two ladies - remember

01:42:42 something - the two ladies - remember what that what it was that you're saying there I was saying to them to stop do not go to the left because there was planning to take the lift and I was saying to them you can't if you go you're gonna be stuck and an emergency

01:42:55 you're gonna be stuck and an emergency you shouldn't use and you're gonna put your life on dangerous I tried to stop them to not go to the left and did they stop going to the left yeah now if we

01:43:07 stop going to the left yeah now if we can have inq four nine four I believe this isn't the same conversation you just described yeah and then the mom she was panicking because she was worried

01:43:20 was panicking because she was worried about her husband

01:43:23 now if we can turn to iron q4 97

01:43:37 so if we can turn feci to four nine five apologize gone too far forward

01:43:48 can you identify the people in this image yeah myself my daughter and my neighbor

01:43:55 neighbor Aziza Aziza yeah and do you remember what you were saying at this time yeah I was talking to her and explaining to her to take if she can look after my

01:44:06 to take if she can look after my daughter

01:44:07 daughter you know no no I go back and get my husband and I was just explaining the situation to her and okay and did she

01:44:19 situation to her and okay and did she look after your daughter then when I went up and I came back down I I saw her you know she she was she was talking with people as she left I am standing

01:44:31 with people as she left I am standing you know by herself and then I I didn't feel say I don't feel my daughter was safe then I I took her and I looked for someone else when I find the other lady

01:44:43 someone else when I find the other lady Zeynep from my country and I spoke to her in my language and I say please can you look after her I left her with someone but I didn't feel I don't feel

01:44:55 someone but I didn't feel I don't feel safe to leave her can you look after her and then she hugged her and it told me don't worry just go and I came back okay now mr. Li looking at these cells in

01:45:06 now mr. Li looking at these cells in turn you've got inq four nine five then if we can then show you four nine six which is the next stone

01:45:19 followed by 94 97

01:45:27 now we can see from the these series of images they were taken this is at 122 36 the previous two were 120 225 is ank you for nine five then 122 at 34 at 496 this

01:45:42 for nine five then 122 at 34 at 496 this is the final one it thank you 122 36 was it at this time that Aziza did look after your daughter yeah this is when I left my daughter with Aziza and you went

01:45:54 left my daughter with Aziza and you went up the stairs at this time now you've just described finding another lady who then looked after your daughter was that after you left the tower for the final time yes

01:46:03 time yes not at this stage when you're going back up the stairs no right now you've gone back up the stairs if we could now have inq 4 9 8 which has taken at 122 54

01:46:18 and can we have IQ four nine nine together side by side

01:46:30 you know you can see two images here the one on the left hand side is taken at 122 54 the one on the right hand side rezaian q 499 was taken at 122 57 so it

01:46:42 rezaian q 499 was taken at 122 57 so it came after it's on his left is first and on the right a second can you identify who you can see in this image yeah myself and the two lady I was speaking

01:46:55 myself and the two lady I was speaking on the beginning and someone else and someone else that's okay just to confirm for the record where do you see yourself in this image on the first view on the

01:47:07 in this image on the first view on the first floor is that on the raised level yeah and to confirm again for the record you said there were the two ladies that you're speaking to before those the two Afghan ladies that you're referring to and where are they in the image that you

01:47:19 and where are they in the image that you can see one up one on the first floor would mean the daughter and the mom on the ground floor okay and the daughters the one wearing blue we can say the lady in blue yeah now you both appear what you'd appear to

01:47:31 now you both appear what you'd appear to be looking into the mezzanine level in the first image do you remember what you were seeing at that time all what I

01:47:42 were seeing at that time all what I remember I went through there and turned to the stairs try to get to the second floor and that moment I thought I am in the second floor and then a fire brigade

01:47:56 the second floor and then a fire brigade man came and stopped me and he told me you can't go we can't he stopped me to go up and then I start you know explaining to him why I want to go say I left my husband he's

01:48:09 want to go say I left my husband he's very ill I give him some medication I'm worried if you go back to sleep please can you get him he's in flat 12550 floor this is the key can you make

01:48:21 12550 floor this is the key can you make sure you know then he say yes and he took the key from me and don't worry we will bring him down all right yeah okay no mister see that you've described a conversation again with the

01:48:32 a conversation again with the firefighter which is also said aren't new statement well proposes we've seen these two images on the mezzanine I'm going to take you back to that conversation but if we can now see the third image as

01:48:43 if we can now see the third image as well which is the boxing club CCTV still so this is taken just to recap these are taker one 2254 and then the third images of CCTV still from the boxing club and

01:48:54 of CCTV still from the boxing club and this has taken I wanted to 36 so it was one 22 18 as the previous image and this is one 22 36 now this in this image we can see a

01:49:07 now this in this image we can see a firefighter on the top right hand a top left hand corner and there's also just below the writing this if we can expand on that top left hand corner possibly we could see somebody wearing orange and

01:49:19 could see somebody wearing orange and pink you know to be that's you and you've described a conversation with a firefighter did you have more than one

01:49:31 firefighter did you have more than one conversation with a firefighter on that evening I think he was on him it was only one one person you know this CCTV stills taken outside the boxing club on the second on the stairs leading up to

01:49:42 the second on the stairs leading up to the second floor do you believe this is where you had that conversation that you've just described I think so yeah okay the stoles that we had just shown you before that show you looking at the mezzanine

01:49:54 that show you looking at the mezzanine level which is a level below the staircase

01:49:58 staircase do you recall looking into the mezzanine level at all no I was just seeing imagining it was first floor and then I was thinking everything seems high when

01:50:10 was thinking everything seems high when I was up

01:50:11 I was up that's why I thought it was that first floor and then I was in the second floor no returning to this conversation you've had at this time with this firefighter

01:50:24 had at this time with this firefighter you've said that you're telling him that your husband was left in the flat is that right yeah did you tell him what the flat number and floor was real helpers yeah I repeated to him man

01:50:37 helpers yeah I repeated to him man there's no flight 125 15 floor and did you did you see what he did with that information no because he told me to leave and he

01:50:49 no because he told me to leave and he will deal with it and I had to not cause a trouble or had to leave yeah go down again okay now you've also referred to giving him your keys and the statement

01:51:02 giving him your keys and the statement yes

01:51:02 yes did you give you keys to this firefight yes yeah did he take your keys yes and he ensured me he will he will go on they will go on getting your husband yeah

01:51:13 will go on getting your husband yeah and at this point did you need the tower again yeah went down right when you went out it's outside the tower where did you go then that's when when I left the

01:51:28 go then that's when when I left the tower in that after that moment when I saw I am on azisa and I took sorry my daughter and I took my daughter and look for the other lady who was holding her

01:51:41 for the other lady who was holding her and I left her with the other lady then I came back and I was between you know walking to the building walking back looking at the people people panicking

01:51:54 looking at the people people panicking people crying people screaming going to go back and the police arrived on that moment and they start to stop people to go back to the building

01:52:07 I have one last question just about what you saw when you'd exited the towers just before this time you are talking about Sally as you left the tower did you hear the sound of any fans on the

01:52:19 you hear the sound of any fans on the ground floor at all no okay

01:52:25 No thank you Miss Sally those the questions that I have for you at this stage and however I believe that mr. chairman there may be some further questions very common we want the

01:52:40 questions very common we want the council's thinks she's asked all the questions she needs a chart just to check that so we're gonna have a five-minute break now well she considers that and then I'll ask her to come back and see if there any more questions I'd

01:52:58 and see if there any more questions I'd like to give the usher thank you and we'll we'll resume at five to twelve

01:53:24 right five two trophies

01:56:20 you

02:01:45 well ah sirrah kumara have you've got some more questions there's one or two more questions you thought there might be yes thank you

02:02:28 we're a bizarrely I think there are one or two more questions so let's see what we get - yes Roma sorry you've described in detail that the air vents and that

02:02:39 in detail that the air vents and that what you'd heard on the night of the fire

02:02:41 fire you've also described that there was a previous occasion that you'd heard the air vents when the aleph be attended other firefighters attended in normal times between that that you ever hear

02:02:52 times between that that you ever hear any sound from the air vents coming no and did you ever feel any movement of air in the communal Lobby no right well

02:03:03 air in the communal Lobby no right well Missoni I've got one final question for you

02:03:06 you is there anything further that you remember about the night above what you've put it in your written statements and above what you've told us today - the inquiry that you think it's important for the Chairman to know the

02:03:47 how scary it was and the firefighter who was standing there under that fire trying to put the fire down and everything was melting and falling down on him and how strong was the point was

02:04:01 on him and how strong was the point was the fire was coming out it looked like the color the blue green colors was bombing all the way up that picture stays in my head it was really then

02:04:15 stays in my head it was really then where I forget everything after and what coming up it was a moment he will always I always would remember and I really remembered that person I was trying to

02:34:42 your son if you go back to the beginning of the bundle right to the beginning turn right through and look at the second tab this is a second tip okay in Chinese this is the English version so

02:34:54 Chinese this is the English version so you've got both there I've got both for the love and don't mind them I mean well but what we're going to do is put them both up on the screen as we make our Corrections and if as I've said if we can take it using primarily the English

02:35:07 can take it using primarily the English version if we look at paragraph three why just what are you some gaudy it's never the tragedy of any moment I'm a different German when I saw simple title somehow by some things in we look

02:35:22 title somehow by some things in we look at paragraph 3 of English statement it begins before the fire I was at home carer and worked four days a week my client lived in Kings Cross and I understand that mrs. Quine once wanted

02:35:35 understand that mrs. Quine once wanted to make clear that at that time she was not working for a regular client but for different clients hey Samuel it's all how you go photo teeccino my god - girl honking Korean

02:35:48 teeccino my god - girl honking Korean cargo to Korean come on we were thinking later to say yes I hate on Chinese

02:36:00 later to say yes I hate on Chinese Association Tower Hamlets Joe tacky sullen and why I came is cosine K so then what's up in my home yet Duncan see Joe yeah um I thought they'd gone to Yangon because the job

02:36:17 they'd gone to Yangon because the job was distributed by the company to different clients but mrs. Quine was working for one company was she called

02:36:30 working for one company was she called O'Banion do you know there were many patients and I was my job was distributed to different patients but my

02:36:41 distributed to different patients but my main job is to work for the clan who lives in Kings Cross thank you can we have then page three of the English language statement and also

02:36:52 the English language statement and also page three of the translation a sound band on my time at their sample and go find new club

02:37:05 [Music] in paragraph 10 of the English language version they stuff the first sentence refers to two smoke alarms they they

02:37:18 refers to two smoke alarms they they something nav new garlic whether you had gone by you there they go getting jungle huh but I'm told that the the translation of this paragraph refers to

02:37:30 translation of this paragraph refers to just one smoke alarm and just for I'm sorry well please explain earlier doing get find it may be anything like Antoine you yet go there should be true so

02:37:44 you yet go there should be true so that's an error in the translation company one cook a finding a dog at home alone

02:38:01 so in the translation he says my flat my flat has the hallway and the kitchen has

02:38:12 flat has the hallway and the kitchen has a smoke alarm so I have an X of it the number is H K Q I think that's a

02:38:25 the number is H K Q I think that's a different way madam interpreted could you just help us is the Chinese version saying the same as the English version or is there a difference

02:38:48 yes I think it is correct yes is there that he has in both the hallway as well as the kitchen well thank you for that assistance can we move forward then to

02:39:02 assistance can we move forward then to paragraph 19 of the English language statement which is on page 5 and if we

02:39:14 statement which is on page 5 and if we move in the translation version I think we try and keep the two together as we go along but the translated version paragraph 19 is on page 4

02:39:38 my question of the correction that we need to make is to the English language version and can I ask about paragraph 19 please the first sentence of paragraph 19 in the English version begins after

02:39:51 19 in the English version begins after the new boiler was fitted is it right that that should read before the new boiler was fitted they said go do England I know because I've gone koala Hey Go Go son you see how many more

02:40:11 Hey Go Go son you see how many more cordial teaching big apology how would I know so yeah I could sing to my book but Rome Doha seal over here after the

02:40:24 Rome Doha seal over here after the boilers feet the water that was leaking as in the kitchen as well as in the bathroom that was true and then is it

02:40:36 bathroom that was true and then is it design something that someone came to fix the boiler and then noticed us bestest and the asbestos was replaced and then the boiler was fixed I may tell

02:40:49 and then the boiler was fixed I may tell you later don't think John's telling so legally so notice how at the fighting though nobody sent me come you know truly Joe Simon's young you know Cindy join on choice Oliver go you said no one

02:41:04 Tommy when you say you say hello to Tina so you can fight in high quality ones and who yells at me so before they fix before they defeat the boiler they

02:41:17 before they defeat the boiler they discover there was asbestos in the ceiling of the bathroom so you're reading with Joe Coliseum Joe Joe word about it I do I am old so the company

02:41:29 about it I do I am old so the company refused to deal with the boiler so we rang the TMO no tengo mucho de carvalho got a bigger concern so come see the dole TM o tin deal with it

02:41:41 dole TM o tin deal with it they sent the job to the company that construct it was that company called ridin ridin yes correct

02:41:54 company called ridin ridin yes correct right into local gods that means see how would you know on Tom Dick or boiler so after ride on her steel with the asbestos they come back and fix the

02:42:05 asbestos they come back and fix the boiler okay I think the last thing we need to deal with is on page 8 of the english-language statement and the

02:42:16 english-language statement and the corresponding translated versions at page 6 Joe how are you achieve a game he was in go ahead don't they ban something oh my they they're not ban get John and

02:43:52 yes city pull me once and then I bought behind him it was very smoky and I couldn't see very much if we look at the

02:44:05 couldn't see very much if we look at the if we look a little further down and look at the first line of paragraph 33 in the English statement which reads van ho had grabbed me and pulled me out of the flat
